Security Statement

We, at Eastern National Bank (ENB) understand that the security of your personal information is of critical importance and that our ability to properly serve you is dependent upon our ability to protect such information.

As such, we have taken a variety of different measures which enable us to provide you with quality service in a safe and secure manner. This Internet Banking System brings together a combination of industry-approved security technologies to protect data for the Bank and for you, our customer. It features password-controlled system entry, a VeriSign issued Digital ID for the Bank’s computer, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol for data encryption, and a router loaded with a firewall to regulate the inflow and outflow of computer traffic.


To use the Internet banking product the customer must enter a personal identification number (PIN) and a password. Both the PIN and the password are chosen by the customer. In accordance with regulatory requirements to address Customer Identity Theft, dual factor authentication has been implemented. In addition to requiring customer to have a password and ID, the customer’s personal computer (PC) is authenticated or if at another PC the customer has to answer challenge/response questions. Further the customer in performing wire transfer transactions is required to enter an additional PIN.

Further identification/authentication protection is provided by the system automatically logging the customer out of a session after 15 minutes of inactivity. Once logged out, the customer has to reenter your PIN and password.

In addition the system disables the customer’s profile in the event the password or PIN is entered incorrectly three times. This mechanism deters users from repeated login attempts. Once logged out, the system requires either a designated wait period or a phone call to Eastern to verify the password before re-entry into the system.

Upon successful login, the Digital ID from VeriSign, the experts in digital identification certificates, authenticates the user's identity and establishes a secure session with that customer via encryption.


It is critical that private information is transmitted between the customer’s and ENB’s computer be encrypted to prevent unauthorized access. Once the communication is established between the customer and ENB, the data is transferred in a secured environment. As ENB’s computer has been certified as a 128-bit secure computer by VeriSign, data traveling between the customer and ENB is encrypted with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol.

With SSL, data that travels between ENB and customer is encrypted. Encryption is a method of protecting information by scrambling such information, thus making it unreadable unless the correct encryption keys are used to unscramble the information. Encryption is achieved by ENB’s computer issuing a public key to the customer's PC and creating for itself a temporary private key. These two keys are the only combination possible for that communication session. When the session is complete, the keys expire and the whole process starts over when a new customer uses the Internet Banking System.

Firewall and Router

In addition, Eastern uses firewalls and routers as another level of protection to prevent unauthorized access to customer’s data. A customer’s request for information is filtered through a router and firewall before they are permitted to reach ENB’s computer. The router works in conjunction with the firewall to block unauthorized requests and to direct authorized requests to the specific Eastern computer responsible for the Internet Banking system.

Technical Support

Eastern utilizes the methods described above to help provide quality service without compromising the safety and security of your information. However, it is important to keep in mind that protecting information is a shared responsibility and thus requires your commitment as well.

Our services currently support Microsoft Edge, Safari (excluding Safari for Windows), Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera (Microsoft Internet Explorer is no longer supported). Support is provided for the current and previous two versions of the browsers. Eastern requires most of its banking service customers to use browsers with 128-bit encryption.
